Cambridge Muslim College is pleased to announce a book launch of “A Sublime Way: The Sufi Path of The Sages of Makka” by Shaykh Seraj Hendricks, Dr Hisham Hellyer & Shaykh Ahmad Hendricks. The Hendricks brothers are two of the recognised khulafa’ of Sayyid Muhammad al-Maliki, and resident shaykhs of the Zawiyah Masjid of Cape Town.

The three speakers at the event, Dr Hisham Hellyer, Ma’an Al-Dabbagh & Abdal Hakim Murad will discuss some of the themes covered in the book, particularly the Sufi way of Sayyid Muhammad b. Alawi al-Maliki as received by the ‘ulama of the Muslim minority of Cape Town.

Dr Hisham A. Hellyer is Senior Fellow in Islamic Studies at Cambridge Muslim College, and visiting professor at the UTM Centre for Advanced Studies on Islam, Science and Civilisation in Malaysia. He is co-author of ‘A Sublime Way: The Sufi Path of the Sages of Makka’, and a Senior Associate Fellow at the Royal United Services Institute and the Atlantic Council.

Ma’an al-Dabbagh is a student of the traditional Islamic sciences who hails from Jeddah and studied under Sayyid Muhammad b. Alawi al-Maliki. He is currently a doctoral scholar at the University of Cambridge, focusing on the ‘ulama of the Hijaz in the late Ottoman Period.

Abdal Hakim Murad is Dean of Cambridge Muslim College and Aziz Foundation Professor in Islamic Studies.
