‘What is Consciousness and Why Observers Matter in Quantum Theory’
Call for Abstracts
This Cambridge conference, supported by the John Templeton Foundation provides an excellent opportunity to present current research and new perspectives on consciousness and the role of the observer in fundamental physical sciences. We particularly welcome researchers working in the Foundations of Quantum Theory, the Philosophy of Physics, Neuroscience, Theology and Artificial Intelligence.
There has been a tremendous upsurge of interest in the field of consciousness and the role of the observer across multiple disciplines. More recently a significant number of theoretical physicists have also turned their attention to this challenging field. Following the seminal paper by John Bell in 1964, overwhelming experimental evidence has now emerged that before any ‘observed measurement’ is made, there are doubts as to how to precisely ascribe any complete sense of ‘reality’ to physical objects such as particles. The consequences of this scientific discovery are of monumental significance. It is striking that to this day there exists no universally accepted definition or scientific explanation of an ‘observer’ or of ‘consciousness’. Venue:
The Venue (TBA) will be in Cambridge. The conference will be hosted by the Cambridge Muslim College.
Date:
Friday 8th September 2017 from 10 am to 6 pm and will include lunch and refreshments provided by the College.
The Format:
20 or 30 minute presentations and open panel discussions together with plenary sessions. The format may be subject to variation and may include breakout sessions.

Please submit a title and abstract of no more than 500 words outlining your presentation to

Deadline for submission of abstracts:
Friday 30th May 2017. Successful applicants will be notified by Friday 29th June 2017 and complete papers will be required by Friday 21 July 2017.
