Cambridge Muslim College invites applications for the post of Research Fellow to be based at the College’s facility in Cambridge, UK, for one academic year with effect from 3 September 2018.
The College seeks outstanding candidates who are currently working as scientists or are engaged in scientific research and who will make a major contribution to the College’s intellectual life.
During their appointment, the post-holder will be expected to complete a significant research project in the area of religion and science, preferably taking the form of two articles for peer reviewed
publication. Applicants are encouraged to submit applications to research a topic falling within biology, cosmology, physics, cognitive science, or neuroscience; applications for research in bioethics, environmental ethics and any other area of applied ethics are not currently being considered. Successful applicants will also be required to organise a conference on a religion and science related topic towards the end of their research year. The Fellowship will also provide elementary training in Islamic theology, which will include an introduction to the broader metaphysical framework upon which Muslim theologians have historically built their thought.
The College is looking to appoint candidates who can evidence an interest in and commitment to theology. Such candidates should be able to outline an area of research that they intend to work on while on the Research Fellowship. The aim of the Fellowship is to offer protected time to working or research scientists so that they can focus on or pursue an area of theological interest which they can continue after the Fellowship.
The successful applicant will be expected to begin on 3 September 2018 and the post will continue to 30 August 2019. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to the aims and ethos
of the College. The Research Fellow will be given access to the College’s library, office space and equipment, and administrative support. The successful applicant will be remunerated at a rate of
£37,000 per annum. The College has a responsibility to ensure that all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK. The deadline for applications to be received at the College is 10:00AM

Applicants should submit a covering letter, a research proposal, curriculum vitae and two sealed letters of recommendation (preferably including one from a thesis supervisor). The research proposal should describe the ambitions and interests of the applicant and an outline of the research project that they would undertake during the period of engagement, and how and why their area of research is theologically important. Inclusion of published work would be an advantage.
